Flat flask in enamelled stoneware - Jean Jean Carriès (1855-1894)

Flat flask or pilgrim flask in enameled stoneware by Jean Carriès (1855-1894).
Jean Carriès was an admired sculptor during his lifetime and a skilled ceramist. He became particularly interested in glazed stoneware after the 1878 World's Fair where he discovered Japanese pieces. A few years later, he was encouraged by Paul Gauguin, whom he met in Ernest Chaplet's studio.
