Basile de Loose (1809-1885) was a Belgian painter. He was the son of Johannes Joseph de Loose where he began to study art with his father. Then he became the pupil of Van Bréé (1773-1839).
From 1829 onwards, his name will be found among the participants and winners of salons in Belgium, Holland and France. From 1829 to 1831, he completed his training by attending courses at the Academy of Antwerp, under the direction of his master.
Painter of portraits and especially of genre scenes where he will have his biggest success. The author Ignace De Wilde will write Basile can be rightly considered as "one of the best genre painters of the Belgian school of the 19th century.
He was awarded the gold medal at the Paris Salon in 1841.
The Berlin museum keeps "Reunion at the Inn" as well as the Leipzig museum: Dance of a Child and Lacemaker and Child.
