The flight into Egypt - Vincent Malo (c. 1605- c. 1650)

Oil on copper

We'd like to thank dr. Jan de Maere for his attribution

Vincent Malo was a Flemish painter, mainly active in Italy, he was known for his genre scenes as well as religious and mythological subjects and occasionally portraits. Malo's works show his knowledge of the drawings used in Ruben's workshop, which is evidence that Malo did spend time in Ruben's workshop. According to Cornelis de Bie, Malo was also a pupil of David Teniers the Elder.
Malo's early works retain Mannerist traits, his mature works showed a Baroque style close to that of Rubens and Van Dyck.
