A gilt embossed copper offering or quest dish.
Italy 1750.
39 cm (15.36 in) x 31 cm (12.21 in)
The umbilicus of the dish is decorated with putti tasting grapes surrounded by vines and vine leaves.
The dish is shaped by a work of repoussé (brassware) and decorated on the rim with motifs of putti and horns of plenty.
Originally, these dishes were intended to receive the bread offerings of the faithful during Christian religious ceremonies, then over time the money collection (which replaced the bread offerings intended to be consecrated).
