M.Argelés (19th century) - The caravan in the desert 1898

Here the artist tackles an orientalist subject: a caravan crossing the desert on the back of dromedaries. The disproportion between the main subject, the caravan, and the landscape refers us to the notion of Man confronted with the immensity of nature, in this case the desert which seems endless. The characters leave the camp for an enigmatic journey.
