Blue and black glass paste cup by François Décorchemont (1880-1971).
"I insist on this fact," testifies Décorchemont, "that I never learned the glassmaker's trade: I was never a pupil, nor an employee, nor a craftsman of any glassworks. My only guide was Salvétat's book on ceramics".
Trained at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where he met Maurice Dufrêne, Henry de Waroquier and Georges Bastard, who would become one of his closest friends, Décorchemont developed a technique of glass paste that would make him famous.
