The Beggar, terracotta by Carl Milles (1875-1955).
Between 1897 and 1904, the artist trained in Paris in Rodin's studio. It was certainly struck by the poverty of the city that the work sprang from his mind. With her hand outstretched, her forehead lowered, holding her child firmly and her dress lifted by the wind, the beggar woman exudes a poignant dignity and serenity.
