The bird, hood ornament in bronze, mounted on a marble base, by the Martel brothers.
The twin brothers Jean and Joel Martel (1896-1966) were taught by the sculptor Pierre Vigoureux and then attended the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs. They participated in numerous events, such as the Salon des Jeunes, the Salon des Indépendants and the Exposition des Arts décoratifs industriels et modernes in Paris in 1925.
In search of ideal proportions, particularly through the use of the Golden Number, their work is characteristic of the Art Deco period, with a cubist sensibility and a preference for smooth and geometric surfaces.
