We are grateful to Elizabeth Pilliod for her identification of this drawing as an early work by Allori dating from around 1564-72 when he was closest to Bronzino. There are visible similarities between the present drawing and the painting of Mercury in the Harvard Art Museum, suggesting Allori used it as a point of reference when painting that work.
