This charming little table was made in Emilia Romagna at the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, probably in the Bologna area. Made of walnut wood, it has a dark patina, characteristic of late 16th century Renaissance cabinetmaking. In addition to this patina, the series of nails that adorns the entire table is a revealing element of the furniture production of this region.
The top, made in one piece, is supported by four baluster feet. The H-shaped brace has the same elements as the legs. Our piece stands out from other tables of this period by its dimensions. Indeed, most tables of this type are large. Ours, of more modest dimensions, seems to have been made for a private, more intimate use.
