Signed central below: "S. De Vos. inventor e fecit 1642."
Simon de Vos was a Flemish painter, draughtsman, and art collector. He is mainly known for his history paintings, cabinet pictures, genre scenes, and merry companies. After 1640, de Vos turned almost entirely away from genre scenes and mainly painted religious, historical subjects, and allegorical scenes, influenced stylistically by Rubens and then increasingly by Anthony van Dyck.
De Vos depicted here the moment where Christ said "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
