Oil on poplar panel representing Christ in bonds, or Christ of pity, awaiting his ordeal during an episode of the Passion, interposed between two stations of the Way of the Cross: Jesus is stripped of his clothes and drunk with gall (station 10), and Jesus is nailed to the cross (station 11).
Northern Italian school, probably Emilia Romagna or Lombardy, 2nd quarter of the 16th c.
Painted on two panels of poplar with two crossbars. A slight lifting at the joint of the panels, but very nice material and great freshness of colors.
