Giovanni Stanchi was a 17th century Italian painter. He was above all an author of still lifes and worked mainly in Rome throughout the seventeenth century. Stanchi marked the transition from the naturalism of Caravaggio to the more mature phase of Baroque decorativism. He was most likely trained in the workshop of Agostino Verrocchio, one of the most important in Rome at that time.
