Tortoise shell box, Spanish Colonies 18th century

Rare box in tortoiseshell veneer on silver leaf.
Model opening with a lid decorated with a removable handle and a gilded bronze hasp.
Very beautiful ornamentation of engraved and openwork bronzes in spandrels.

The interior lined with a pink silk lampas.

Beautiful state of preservation; small usual restorations.

Work from the Spanish colonies, 18th century.

Our opinion :

The box we present is a very fine example of the productions of the Spanish colonies.
With its still Louis Quatorzian shape, it not only sports a rich ornamentation of gilded bonzes but above all a very luminous veneer, consisting of a thin sheet of tortoiseshell positioned on a sheet of silver.
Like a mirror, this sheet allows the material to vibrate and reflects the natural color of the tortoiseshell, enriched by "gold" reflections of the most beautiful effect.
