This drawing by Elie Honoré Montagny can be compared to several other drawings made during his stay in Rome, between 1804 and 1815 and more particularly in the years between 1807 and 1809. The classic style, close to David with whom he studied in his youth, the chosen subject, worthy subject of history painting, the technique employed, very often used by this artist, the presence of inscriptions identifying the characters are all characteristic elements of this artist, who has soberly signed lower left of the sheet “EHM inv.
