Fortunino MATANIA, Italian school, known for his genre paintings and battle scenes was born April 16, 1881 in Naples (Benezit, p.250, Volume 7)
Dejanira, the last mortal wife of Heracles is kidnapped by the centaur Nessus ( advised by Hera) who proposes to carry her on his back to cross the Evenos, then in full flood. He is killed with an arrow by the demi-god who realizes the trickery.
