Eugène Verboeckhoven was a Belgian painter, sculptor, etcher and engraver of animals, animated landscapes and portraits. He was a prolific artist and was meticulous in his preparation. He usually made hundreds of sketches and studies were produced, which he used to assemble different elements like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. His portrayed animals are always immaculate, polished, posing and detailed. Verboeckhoven also liked to put a humanlike expression in the gaze of his portrayed animals.
