Pair of angels ceroferaires in gilded wood, Italy 17th century

Beautiful pair of ceroferary* angels sculpted in the round in gilded and polychrome linden wood.
Our two angels, dressed in a simple tunic, are represented in full flight, with their wide wings spread.
They support in their hands cornucopias terminated by iron cups acting as candlesticks.

Very good state of conservation, polychromy and original gilding (with small alterations).
Very nice repair work on the wings.

17th century Italian work.

Dimensions:

Height: 70cm

As the absence of an interior foot suggests, our pair of hanging angels was probably originally kneeling on the upper part of an altar.

*The ceroferaire (from the Latin cereus and fero, literally candle holder), also called flame holder, is in the Catholic liturgy an altar server who carries a torchiere, a candlestick or a simple candle lit outwards, c ie directed towards the faithful.
