This canvas, bearing a label on the back,
is attributed to Moise JACOBBER (1786-1863)
painter of German origin, naturalized French under the name of Jacobber.
He was very famous for his oil paintings, but also on porcelain.
Employed at the Manufacture de Sèvres, he made the decoration of two large Sèvres vases given by Louis-Philippe to the Grand Duke of Baden in 1833.
He was frequently present at the Salons from 1822 to 1855 as well as at exhibitions in Lille, Douai, Cambrai and London. He received many medals.
He specialized in flowers, and left many paintings to posterity: very lively still lifes where we find animals such as birds making their nests or snails.
Very often staged on a black background, his compositions come out brighter.
He opened a school on rue des Petits Champs in Paris, where he taught the art of painting flowers on oil or porcelain.
