Art Deco - Art Nouveau - Ceramics and Slip
Rare sculpture in slip by Carrier Belleuse (1848-1913) representing a centaur, rarer representation than the centaur in Greek mythology This ceramic presents a centaur who reveals her sexual power bulging her chest. She carries under each arm an amphora held by a drapery. His body passes over a faun claiming water. It is a very moving sculpture. The whole is in ocher tones, blue for the amphoras, the base being covered in part by vine branches. Signed and dated in hollow on the back: CARRIER.BELLEUSE 1895 and HB Choisy le ROI under the piece.
