An Ivory French 14th century panel from a diptych with "The Dormition of the Virgin". The Virgin on Her bed, surrounded by 7 apostles (St. John with Martyr Palm & Book). Christ in central position with the Soul of the Virgin (in antropomorphic shape as a Child) on His left arm while performing a blessing gesture with His right arm. Four arches with drapery and pierced pointed trefoils. Scarce remains of red polychromy. From our private collection.
Reference: a similar sculpture can be found at the Musée Bonnat-Helleu in Bayonne with inventory number 447 (Koechlin 0522). It is dated 14th century.
