Furniture and Works of Art from the 17th, 18th and early 19th century
These ceramic vases rest on gilt bronze bases and are topped with a cap ending in a gilt bronze seed. The piedouche like the collar and the hat are Sèvres blue in color decorated with gold medallions inside which are agricultural implements, firebrands, quivers and bows, musical instruments painted in gold.
A continuous decoration on the body of the vases represents a hunt where one can see the crew in 18th century clothes chasing the deer.
A certain number of vases of the same invoice are signed H.Desprez, some H.Desprez Sèvres.
His two favorite themes were the Napoleonic battles, in particular Wagram and Austerlitz, and genre scenes inspired by the 18th century.
H.Desprez as well as Robert and Poitevin were renowned painters in Sèvres at the end of the 19th century.
