Honoré Dufin is installed in Lyon as a cabinetmaker since 1876, first 8 rue Saint-Dominique, then 4 rue des Célestins, from 1880 to 1884, finally 49 rue de la République in 1892.
He received a Silver Medal at the Universal Exhibition in Lyon in 1872 and a Bronze Medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1878.
He provided three plates for the "Traité théorique et pratique de l'ébénisterie d'après Roubo..." of the 1884 edition: pl. 55 Renaissance Buffet, pl. 97 Henri IV Credence and pl. 98 Petit Meuble Buffet (François Ier).
Dufin had acquired an outstanding reputation in the manufacture of stylish furniture.
Among other things, he placed great importance on the care given to both the structure of the furniture and its decorative finish.
Walnut was one of his favorite woods, allowing him to build a resistant piece of furniture, as well as to have a fine sculpture and a beautiful color.
Passionate about statuary art, Honoré Dufin's will provided in 1892 for the creation of a prize, to be awarded each year to the most deserving student of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, sculpture section.
The Fabius Frères Collection owned two pieces of furniture by Dufin: a middle table and a double cabinet, both in carved walnut (Sotheby's).
