Beautiful chest of drawers in kingwood veneer, opening with four drawers on three rows. There are many chests of drawers of this type and one must look at different criteria to evaluate their quality:

The most beautiful Regency chests of drawers are like this one, veneered with kingwood, more appreciated than pallissandre. Its beautiful "honey" colour and its less marked veining were requested around 1720 by the most demanding clients.

Some three-row chests of drawers have the defect of being "flat" on the front. Our chest of drawers has a slightly curved front that extends the beautiful roundness of the uprights.

The apparent simplicity of the marquetry, made of a single precious wood, hides an extremely elaborate work: the sides and the drawers present geometrical decorations in a triple row of reserves. On the uprights, the frieze is worked in chevrons. Between the drawers, the simpler chests of drawers have vertical friezing. Here, the frieze between the drawers is oblique, and reverses in the centre for a perfect symmetry still de rigueur in the Regency period.

Finally, the quality of the original bronzes is noteworthy: the model of the drop handles "aux valets" is very neat, the hooves, the falls and the apron are rich and very well chiseled. The gilding is of high quality, but probably redone in the 19th century.

The chest of drawers is topped with a beautiful grey and brown veined marble from Languedoc.

This chest of drawers has been beautifully restored and is in a remarkable state of preservation. The fir frame, the walnut drawer frames and the veneer are all original and only need to be restored for use and maintenance.
