As a pupil of Paul Delaroche, the young Charles Loyeux befriended several painters of his generation, including Jean-Léon Gérôme and Jobbé-Duval. His debut at the Salon took place in 1842, where he presented years after years portraits or scenes and historical subjects. Many of the artist's compositions are kept in French museums: Orsay, Musée des Augustins in Toulouse, Nantes, or the National School of Fine Arts.
Dressed in a very bright blue and white ensemble, this very elegant young woman is represented during the first years of the second half of the 19th century. Admirably made, the clothing set is crowned with a small straw hat giving more volume to the composition enhanced by this brushed cream background, giving a very contemporary appearance.
