Bust sculpture of the Duce
signed G. Bertolini and dated 1931 Year IX ° E.F (Fascist Era)
Premise: It is a work of art that has no political significance, such as a bust of Nero or Napoleon.
Simply a very rare signed and dated work of art that recalls a historical period, the twenties.
With the fall of fascism on 25 July 1943 these rare works were all destroyed for obvious reasons. That presumably could be placed in the homes of very high officials, politicians of the time or in the seats of power or institutions of the period.
This is a very rare case in which, for some reason, the work was secured and then kept. It arrives to us in perfect condition, in the first patina.
The hat with the coat of arms of the “Fascist Young Fighters” in silver is original of the sculptural group.
The Duce's hair, like the PNF pin pinned to his chest, is perfectly defined
through an exceptional finesse of carving.
The entire group is made of solid national walnut.
On the column at the base, on the left side, there are the signature and the date for abroad then it is repeated inside the central piece and also on the back of the bust.
Wheat and grapes, the symbols of Italian agriculture, are at the base of the column.
Climbing up the sides, large lictor fasces are surrounded by oak twigs that symbolize strength.
On the front of the column there are the globe and the inkwell with the pen, which probably symbolize the colonialist projects of fascism. Between the bust and the column, a third part with oak leaves frame the eagle clawing fasces with the inscription DUX.
Definitely a museum object that no one now confuses with political aspects that have now gone down in history and not related to collecting a similar work.
The measurements are incredible, a huge work.
Measurements: 65 x 45 cm total height 207 cm
