Henriquetta Girouard was born in Portugal in 1816 to a French father and a Lisbon mother. She most certainly joined France in her childhood since she started at the Salon in 1841, already being a student of Nicolas Gosse. It exhibits historical and religious subjects, but above all portraits of young girls from good French and Portuguese society living in Paris. She married a carpenter around 1861/2 and exhibited one last time at the Salon in 1865 under the name Lucquin-Girouard.

A few paintings by this painter are in public collections and many charming portraits have been seen on the art market. Ours, particularly attractive, is a delicate portrait of a young girl whose outfit and hairstyle do not show any artifice. This composition is that of a soft face revealed by a fine brush.
