Our artist, Charles-Leopold (Carlo Leopoldo) van Grevenbroeck, belonged to the third generation of a famous dynasty of Italian vedute painters of Dutch origin specialised in Italianate harbour scenes
He was born in Milan and worked by the end of his life, just as his father in Naples. But above all he was mostly active in Paris, in the 1730s and 1740s. Our painting, dated 1750, was painted during his stay in Turin.
