In this painting we can see three angels visiting Christ, with Mary and Joseph by their side. In the background we can see an angel descending from the heavens, bringing a message to two figures.

Louis de Caullery was a pupil of Joos de Momper and became a master in 1602 in the Antwerp Guild of St. Like. He was a follower of Paul Vredeman de Vries, known for his architectural pieces. His work is mostly characterized by tall characters, exquisity postures, smooth faces and bare foreheads. His colours are highly sophisticated, using halftones, ocher-yellow and Burgundy red.
