Jenny Montigny was a Belgian painter, who studied under Emile Claus. In the summer of 1893 she followed a course in open air painting with Emile Claus, together with several female students From 1895 as a student she traveled back and forth from Ghent to Villa Zonneschijn, Claus' studio in Astene near Deinze.
Montigny became a member of the luminist artists' group Vie et Lumière, which also included figures like Emile Claus and James Ensor. Montigny often exhibited in salons in Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent. In addition to that she was a regular guest in the Ghent Cercle artistique et Littéraire.
