Yvon-Ambroise Vermeersch was a Belgian painter, mainly known for his romantic city views. Vermeersch studied at the Academy of Fine arts in Ghent as a student of Pieter-Frans De Noter, where he specialized in landscapes, veduta and interiors.
Vermeersch was an important represenative of the vedute-genre from the first half of the 19th century.
His work is completely set in the romantic atmosphere, but of course the topographical exactitude and the truthful representation are also characteristic. That is why his style is best characterized as romantic realism. Vermeersch belongs together with Pieter-Frans De Noter, François-Joseph Boulanger, Pieter-Frans Poelman, François Bossuet, François Stroobant and Jan-Michiel Ruyten.
