Medieval sculpture of a knight in tournament. Early 14th century.

A rare small medieval sculpture in hollow cast pewter and lead alloy depicting a knight in tournament. The knight is seated on a horseback, wearing a helmet, lance and shield with cross pattern. The knight is ready to attack in a game of jousting. This piece was probably played with by a medieval boy.

Found in the city of Dordrecht. Early 14th century.

Provenance: private collection of Mr. & Mrs. Gabriëlse (Middelburg, NL) ; acquired from Dick Meijer Antiquiteiten (Amsterdam, NL)

Dimensions (without stand): height 6.3cm x length 5.2cm x depth 1cm

In good condition with a nice excavation patina. The left front leg broken, glued and reinforced by a small metal rod.
