This marble architectural element, carved on both sides, dates from the 14th century and was made in Venice. It features a detailed lion's head surrounded by decorative carved leaves. The white marble lion's head protrudes from the bottom of the piece and would have been placed as a decorative detail on an arch or roof. This piece would have been a fragment of a larger building used as a support or corbel. The piece is in very good condition and is a wonderful example of northern Italian decorative architecture.
