Furniture and Works of Art from the 17th, 18th and early 19th century
At all times, marble vases and columns have been regarded as first-rate ornaments in the decoration of eighteenth-century homes. A large number of sales catalogs of the time provide us with information on this phenomenon. From the Randon de Boisset collection in 1777 to the very end of the century, all furnishings included marble vases from different sources, almost always enriched with chiseled and gilded bronzes.
The fluted column on which these bases rest is quite emblematic of the neoclassical period, which restored ancient cannons to the fore.
