Landscape, watercolor heightened with white on paper, signed and dated 1903 lower left. 30x45cm Original frame in wood and gilded stucco 46x61cm Some bites. Condition report and technical photographs on request. French landscape painter and watercolorist, member of the Barbizon School. Friend of Léon Bonnat (1833-1922), Constant Troyon (1810-1865) and Théodore Rousseau (1812-1867). Henri Joseph Harpignies is deeply influenced by the work of Camille Corot. Qualified by Anatole France as "Michelangelo of trees and peaceful countryside" he declared: "Personally, I did not get rid of the obsession with greens until I replaced them with grays or blues. the range is endless. This allowed me later to find warm greens that meet all needs. Corot was par excellence the one who triumphed over the greens and especially the spinach greens. I tried to imbibe myself in his way. »
