The workshop of a Taxidermist - J. Convey

This painting has probably been painted in the entomology department of a French university by a gifted amateur painter as there are no other paintings on record of J. Convey. The painting technique is adequate, but the stuffed animals are depicted with great attention to detail and a great sense of colour. By the choice and the treatment of its subject, by its atmosphere the viewer is reminded of the paintings of "le douanier Rousseau", and as such it can truly be considered an unusual minor masterpiece.
