A Porcelain statue of Lu, the Sanxing of Wealth, Guangxu/Republic period

A large porcelain and enamel Luxing figure of the Famille rose, Guangxu / Republic period. Workshop sealmark. Very good condition. Holes were naturally made by the potter during the manufacture of the object to receive false mustaches and beards as well as ribbons.

The "Sanxing" ("Three stars") are three deities of ancient China represented respectively by Fu, the god of Luck and Happiness, Lu, the god of honor and wealth, and Shou, the god of longevity.

The present figure represents Lu, the god of Honor and Wealth, recognizable by the child he is holding in his arms.

These representations of Chinese Taoist folklore, intended above all for the domestic market for specimens welcome and signed with a beautiful workshop sealmark, as is the case here, developed especially between 1900 and the first third of the 20th century, with however a clear decline in quality over the last years of the Republic (1912-1939). This example is distinguished by its very large size and the very good quality of its enamels which place its manufacture between the end of the Qing and the beginning of the Chinese Republic, probably around 1910/1915.
