Ggiallo antico tazza - Attributed to Benedetto Boschetti (1820-1870)

Benedetto Boschetti (1820-1870).
Tazza.
Giallo antico marble.

Our tazza presents a fluted pedestal surmounted by a cup with a gadrooned exterior, carved with a fine foliage decoration on the inside. A protruding button decorated with a flower and a fall of leaves ornates the center.

The workshop of Benedetto Boschetti (1820-1870) was renowned for the exceptional quality of its marble work « after the antique ». He was particulary praised for his works on hard and precious variety of marbles such as the rosso antico or the giallo antico. He mastered his sculpting technique better than no other workshop and supplied extremely high quality works of art to satify the academic and sophisticated tastes of young wealthy aristocrates on the Grand Tour.
He thus was awarded a medal at the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London.
