View of Lake Maggiore - Bartolomeo Giuliano (1825 - 1909)

Oil painting on canvas by Bartolomeo Giuliano (Susa 1825 - Milan 1909) depicting a view of Lake Maggiore with the Borromean Islands with figures and burchielli in maintenance.

Scenic and elegantly graceful at the same time, this large painting is an interesting testimony of the beginnings of this artist's activity. Next to the signature in the lower left we read the date of the execution of the work 1850, indicative of a painter just 25 years old fresh from his attendance at the Albertina Academy in Turin. It is an ambitious composition in size and breath, characterized by soft and luminous light tones.

An articulated, harmonious, non-trivial landscape with a precise pictorial rendering, sometimes calligraphic especially in the architecture but not simplistically idealized.

Our Landscape, whose autography and authenticity are evident, represents a cultured exercise in style, an early and important painting, capable of revealing a strong creative personality with its own originality that is already expressed with a fluid and sure, flickering gesture. These formal characteristics, combined with the size of the work, allow us to suppose an ambitious client, high bourgeois or aristocratic, eager to bring the image of a recent great past into the town house.
