Hermanus Koekkoek was part of the Koekkoek painters family. Hermanus Koekkoek learned the art of painting from his father, the marine painter Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek. Hermanus is mostly know as a marine painter, he worked in a typical romantic-realistic style, a trait that also characterized the work of his family and the rest of the Netherlands in the 19th century.
Works of Hermanus Koekkoek can be found in the Teylers Museum, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
