It represents a herd of bulls grazing under the pines. The sumi-e work is of great finesse and details the power of animals. The symbol of the association of the bull and the pines, the power and longevity of the pine are auspicious signs.
Signed lower right Kô Sukoku (1730-1804) and made at the age of 67. Edo period (1603-1868) late 18th century.
Provenance: a French general decorated with the Order of the Rising Sun.
