Element of gothic architecture - France or Flanders, XV century

This element of limestone architecture representing two angels above a Gothic pointed arch, was probably the crowning of a stone tabernacle.

Dressed in an alb tightened at the waist by a belt, the angels keep in their hands the instruments of passion: the crown of thorns, the ladder to descend from the cross, the flagellum or flagrum of the Flagellation of Christ.

The pointed arch, the gothic pinnacle with crocket that stand in the center of the composition as well as the physiognomy of the angels are typical elements of Flamboyant Gothic and allow us to date this architectural fragment in the first half of the 15th century.
