Central Russia around 1830-50
Size 31.1 cm x 26.6 cm
Very rare depiction of the Mother of God Ovsepethaja, this type only occurs in the Russian area. The origin is based on an independence from the Russian Akathistoshymnos depictions.
The Mother of God is shown in half-length, the Child Jesus is sitting on the Mother of God and reaches for her Maphorion (robe).
On the Maphorion, three angel heads can be seen instead of the usual virgin stars.
In the hem of the robe of the Blessed Mother is the liturgical text: “O you most holy of all saints who gave birth to Christ the word ........ written down”.
