The water bearer - Ivory sculpture, France late 19th century

Amazing ivory sculpture of an oriental half naked lady bearing a water jug. Traces of colours on the skirt, scarf, jug and stick. Gilt elements. Refined piece.

Size: H 30cm x diameter 8cm

French School of the second part of the 19th century, probably Dieppe.

Thank to the recent exhibition in the Orsay Museum, "En couleur, la sculpture polychrome en France, 1850-1910", the interest and the understanding of polychrome sculpture has increased. Its reference to the Antique Art is unveiled.
