An oak retable group of the Disrobing of Christ, the Tenth Station of the Cross, depicting Christ before his crucifixion, just at the moment when his clothing is about to be removed from him.
The group was carved in the city of Antwerp by an anonymous sculptor, a member of the guild of St. Luke, as can be seen by the famous "hand" hallmark which guaranteed the quality of the wood used for this sculpture.
Antwerp, circa 1520-1530.
Provenance: ex collection Mr. & Mrs. Gabriëlse (Monte Carlo, Monaco & Middelburg, NL) from 1992 until June 2020. Acquired from Sotheby's Monaco in 1992.
Dimensions: W (front view) 39.5cm ; H 29.3cm ; D 6.5cm.
Condition: The sculpture is in good condition. The lower left corner has been re-glued as well as the 2 arms of the man who is removing the mantle. The grain and color are the same as the rest of the sculpture so they are definitely original.
