River landscape near Rio de Janairo

Henri Charles Langerock was trained at the Ghent School of Fine Arts. He spent part of his life in France, mainly in Paris and Marseille, where he was recognized as a master of landscape, bucolic scenes and undergrowth atmospheres. He spent several years in Italy, Africa and South America, where he painted many paintings of exotic or orientalist landscapes and scenes.
In a genre combining painting and great spectacle, his name is also associated with at least three Panoramas, including that of the Battle of Tell-el-Kebir, presented in London in 1884, and that of The City of Rio de Janeiro, presented in Brussels in 1888, in Paris in 1889 and in Brazil in 1891.
