Founded in 1880 by the Dutchman Jean-Henri Jansen, Maison Jansen is considered to be the first design firm to have made its name a brand. Its importance in the decorative arts became central at the end of the nineteenth century with its creations of electric style. By specializing in historical styles, the house acquired an international reputation and set up two stores on Rue Royale, one specialized in furniture design focusing on historical veracity while the other presented new and very contemporary furniture, the result modernist vision of the great Parisian house.
