Pre-Columbian terracotta jar, Aconcagua culture

Terracotta jar with ocher background and decoration in red and black pigments, Chile, pre-Columbian period, culture of the Aconcagua valley, Chile, between the 9th and the 15th century. Some losses of material to the handles and neck. Unrestored.

Although similar in style to pre-Columbian Nasca ceramics, this rare jar undoubtedly belongs to the very poorly known culture of the Aconcagua valley in Chile which developed between the 9th and the 15th century AD (see on this subject the works of Rodriguo Sanchez Romero and Mauricio Massone Mezzano, Cultura Aconcagua, 1995, Direccion de Bibliotecas, Archivos y museos
