Italian cabinet and its console, 18th century.
Made of blackened wood, tortoise shell, silver fillets and embossed silver plates. The pressed silver plates framing the cabinet represent an ichthyosaur fighting a sea serpent. Based on a bronze plate by a 16th century German sculptor, (plates on display in the Szépmüvészeti Museum in Budapest and the National Gallery of Art in Washington).
This cabinet consists of a large drawer, 3 small drawers on the left, 4 drawers on the right, a central door opening onto a mirrored altar concealing 3 small secret drawers.
It is placed on its original console with matching decoration.
