Severo da Ravenna (about 1470-1543).
Candlestick representing a satyr woman holding a candlestick with her child.
The model of this candlestick has been known to antiquarians since the seventeenth century, mistaken for an antique, it has only recently been admitted that it was a production of the Italian Renaissance.
It is a typical model of the production of the Paduan veneto artists of the sixteenth century. This model comes from the workshop of Severo da Ravenna, intended to serve as an inkwell, because a shell of mollusk turned over was originally present on the terrace to collect the ink.
Our candlestick is a reproduction of the nineteenth century of this model very popular over the centuries that knows many variations in these original models.
